  • How can I become an Expert?

    A: Are you interested in helping people grow their auto DIY knowledge and believe you have the qualities and experience to be a Tinker Expert? Great! Here’s how to apply:

    1. Fill out a screener
    2. Applicants who pass the screener will be asked to hop on a quick vetting call to confirm their experience
    3. Agree to a background check
    4. With clearance on all 3 points above, you will be invited to join our platform

  • How do I reconnect with an Expert from a previous call?

    Because we are currently an on-demand product, we don't offer the ability to select individual Experts at this time.

    However, at the end of a call, you can ask your Expert when they are typically online and available to increase your chances of reconnecting with them. Please note: we can't guarantee you'll be matched with the same Expert every time.

  • How do you screen Experts on Tinker?

    The process for becoming an Expert involves multiple steps to ensure we find the best fit. Each of our Experts must have proven expertise as an automotive mechanic or experience in a similar role. In addition, our Experts must possess:

    • 3+ years of experience and/or are ASE-certified
    • A strong knowledge of automotive systems including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
    • Strong communication and customer service skills
    • An iPhone with an operating system of iOS 14 or above
    • Background check clearance

    Finally, Expert calls and call ratings are monitored for quality.

  • Oops! My call dropped! How do I rejoin?

    If your call drops during an Expert consultation, you will be given the option to rejoin the call when you reopen the app.
